A Dream of You

I have a dream

that makes me smile

of a quiet life with you

as well a fear of saying it

may prevent it coming true

a dream of making music

with you underneath the stars

of sharing laughs and memories

a love that's truly ours

but a wall is built around your heart

and knowing why it's there

I tread with caution and concern

my aching heart must bear

not knowing if I go too far

in expressing how I feel

and if you'll ever feel the same

and agree to make it real

the version of events that play

over in my mind

to be loved by you and you alone

I know may take some time

or it may never happen

I must admit it's true.

for now I can only be content

to have this dream of you
