I Stay Afloat

my boat stays above water
I am grateful that it does
however, it sure would be nice
for me to stop bailing
long enough for me to grab
my fishing pole

I see others on their yachts
I have no desire for that
but it sure would be nice
for me to just rest my arms

I'm grateful that I stay afloat
but I yearn for a break
one long enough for me to sit with my lover
and just row this little boat with her underneath the stars

but alas! I don't even have a lover!
I'm too busy scooping
too busy only surviving
instead of taking pleasure
in the lake, animals and trees

I don't wish to just stay afloat anymore
my arms are so tired
I want to rise above the mist on a parasail once and for all

and look down on my past
gliding along with the birds
who have no such concerns
