you came to browse around my store
my heart broke as I waved goodbye
you had a smile, but no reply

though I didn't have the nerve to try
to speak to you
or ask your name
or where you're from
or why you came

from a far away land
to be right here
I was much too shy to be so near
so lovely a creature as yourself
so I just pretend to dust a shelf

so many things I would have said
if my stubborn feet weren't made of lead
I would have walked up close to you
and asked you without fear or dread

if you'd only share a drink with me
just to talk and we might see
was there at least a chance to be
lovers true forevermore?

but alas, you turned away and left my store
and I will see you nevermore
